Ahlia-Mei Ta’ala (Ngāti Hineoneone me Ngā Poutama ki Te Awa Tupua) is a spatial designer who joined Matakohe Architecture and Urbanism in 2021.

After graduating from Victoria University of Wellington’s School of Architecture she entered the two year He Maunga, He Tangata (Māori Design Internship) Programme that provided her with paid work placement in the Māori Design Roopu of the former Auckland Design Office at Te Kaunihera o Tāmaki Makaurau and at Isthmus Group around her studies towards a Master of Landscape Architecture at Unitec Institute of Technology.

This internship provided her with a range of experiences working with and for mana whenua across both public and private design projects. Her upbringing and experience has instilled in her a desire to pursue better design outcomes for whānau and whenua.

Ahlia-Mei looks forward to learning from her colleagues and strengthening her knowledge and skillset towards whānau, hapū and iwi and the cultural landscape.
